Professional Nanny (Part-Time with Travel) โ€“ Edinburgh and abroad ยฃ30,000

A warm, down to earth, welcoming family in Edinburgh is seeking a professional, experienced nanny to support the care of their very active 10-year-old son with Autism and ADHD. He also has a 14-year-old sibling who is largely self-sufficient.

This role works alongside their existing, easy going, long-term nanny whom the family have a long-standing relationship: they all value a respectful, collaborative working environment.

The family travels 4โ€“5 times per year during school holidays, including to their property in Florida. Both nannies travel with the family, working collaboratively and independently, while also enjoying personal downtime during trips.

Start Date: ASAP

Hours:  25 hours per week in Edinburgh (approx. 38 weeks), increasing to 37 hours per week (approx. 14 weeks) during travel. Flexibility required around travel and the odd evening babysitting agreed in advance. 

The position involves a mix of afternoons, evenings and occasional weekends, agreed in advance.

Salary: ยฃ30,000 gross per year / ยฃ2500 gross per month (approx. ยฃ20 per hour)

Benefits include paid mileage, 28 days annual leave, and a private en-suite room with all expenses covered during travel.

The ideal candidate will be experienced with ASN children, organised, proactive and warm, with the ability to create a structured, nurturing environment where their son can thrive. A team-player attitude, flexibility and a sense of fun are essential.

Childcare

Care for a 10-year-old with ASN: Autism and ADHD; plan and implement age-appropriate activities, educational play and outings; support with homework and project work from his home-schooled tutor; maintain consistent routines that promote wellbeing;

Practical Responsibilities

Prepare nutritious meals and snacks; maintain tidy play areas and bedroom; light housekeeping related to childcare duties (family employs a cleaner); transport to and attend activities (full clean driving licence essential);

Additional Duties

Organise schedules and coordinate activities; administer medication when required; communicate regularly with parents and the other nanny regarding progress and needs; support bedtime routines when required; occasional additional babysitting by mutual agreement; occasional support with the teenager, who is largely self-sufficient; travel with the family and other nanny for holidays and short trips; provide cover during the existing nannyโ€™s annual leave, sickness or other absences.

Qualifications & Experience

Experience working with children with ASN; current Paediatric First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain); strong references from previous families.

Positive, enthusiastic approach with a genuine love for childcare; high energy and enjoyment of active play and outdoor activities; excellent communication skills with children, teenagers and parents; professional approach with understanding of appropriate boundaries; able to work independently when parents are sometimes present at home; proactive, organised and reliable; flexible and adaptable while maintaining consistent routines; animal lover (two cats in the household).

Practical Requirements

Full clean UK driving licence; up-to-date passport; own reliable vehicle (free parking onsite); non-smoker; excellent English language skills; a love of theme parks and fun days out would be a bonus.
